SWALLOWS Rugby Club has received sponsorship worth about R50 000 in the form of rugby gear from sports betting company Hollywoodbets.
The sponsorship gear included short pants, jerseys and rugby balls and were handed over on Saturday morning at KwaNobuhle’s Jabavu Stadium by Nomsebenzi Tsotsobe, a former national Springbok captain.
She is the annalyst of Phaka rugby show on Supersport.
She said that she was very much delighted to have been able to choose Swallows Rugby Club to receive the kit from Hollywoodbets as her team of choice among many teams.
Tsotsobe said, “We must look after this kit as they tend to get stolen two years down the line.”
Swallows Rugby Club president Lizo Maneli said, “I am very much excited. This club was formed in 1922 by people who loved rugby. In 1968 from 3rd to 1st team we were champions and in 1972, we became league champions. Our club has produced 13 springbok players. I am proud of this club.”
Ward 47 Councillor Nontuthuzelo Sikweyiya thanked the team “for putting her ward on the map”.
She is the lady president of the club and said, “I am supporting all sporing codes because sport keeps our children away from crime and out of trouble.”
