ALTHOUGH schools reopened only on Monday, students from Trafalgar School of Accounting are well-prepared, as they have already covered some topics in Accounting, Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy.

“This year, we met matric parents and learners on January 11th and immediately started with entry-level assessment and tutoring,” said Felicity Nelson, who established Trafalgar School of Accounting on 17 August 2017.

Nelson has 32 years of teaching experience with the Department of Education as an Accounting teacher and three years as a tutor.

The tutoring centre is registered with Impaq and has on-site monitoring for students registered with Impaq for home schooling.

“Home schooling students were never affected during the Lockdown as school based assessments and exams were written at the centre whilst abiding by COVID-19 rules,” said Nelson.

Trafalgar has appointed four tutoring assistants. Sharon Peters for Life Sciences, Salomie Chakawe for English, Safiyah Mohamed for English and Mathematics and Joseph Slingers (Sr.) for English HL and Afrikaans FAL.

Trafalgar closed only during Lockdown Level 5, but since Level 4, with permission from the SAPS which issued permits, matric students were allowed to come to the centre.

“We would like to acknowledge the DCEs and SESs of the different subjects from the Department of Education who upon invitation availed themselves to address our students at the centre before the final examination.

Research scientist joins Trafalgar

Trafalgar is proud to announce that Dr Ettienne Minnaar who completed his BSc degree in Mathematics and Physical Sciences in 2008, and MSc degree in Physical Sciences in 2012 and his PhD (Doctorate) in Physical Sciences in 2019, has joined the centre as Physical Science Tutor.

Dr Minnaar is currently employed at Nelson Mandela University as a research scientist and lecturer in the Department of Physical Sciences. He lectures 1st and 2nd year students as well as BEd Physical Sciences student teachers.

Dr Minnaar feels this is one way of giving back to the community by tutoring Grade 10-12 Physical Sciences at our Centre. Classes are presented in both English and in Afrikaans on different days at R100 per hour session. Classes started on Tuesday, 9 February 2021.
