THE Shakespeare Schools Festival will take place at the Little Theatre in Port Elizabeth from 17 to 18 September and schools from Uitenhage are encouraged to register to be part of this exciting programme.
Shafiq Kalumo, festival co-ordinator and founder of Linga Creatives, said schools need to register before the end of April, as only six schools can be accommodated.
The Shakespeare Schools Festival was launched during 2010 with the aim to strengthen the link between arts and education.
“The festival is an educational programme, aiming to improve language and social skills through performing arts. We aim to unite children from diverse backgrounds using the unique power of theatre and the works of Shakespeare as the vehicle,” said Kalumo.
“Alongside the festival, we offer training programs for teachers, young learner directors, and casts of the schools in preparation for their performances at the festival. Whether we’re engaging with young people in a theatre, school hall or classroom, our creative approach to education unlocks their potential. With us, young people change their attitude to learning,” said Kalumo.
