Despatch police bade farewell to D/WO Tertius Ferreira, who officially retired on 31 July 2021, after serving the community for more than 41 years.
D/WO Ferreira will be remembered for his commitment and dedication displayed throughout his career in the organisation, serving and protecting people.
He initially joined the former South African Railways Police Force during 1980 in Pretoria and was transferred to the Uitenhage Railway Station in 1981. In the early years of his career, he conducted day and night foot patrols in and around the workshops of the train station.
“Until today, he believes that he was not the only one on duty at the time. Cold shivers use to ran down his back when he was walking on night patrols in certain areas – and he believed it must have been supernatural,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart.
His career as a detective started in 1986, when he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Ferreira investigated various theft cases during his career and he joined the South African Police after the South African Railways Police Force amalgamated with SAP.
D/WO Tertius Ferreira remained to serve his community by thoroughly investigating various different criminal cases until his last day in office.
D/WO Ferreira received the following medals during his career:
1983 – SARP medal for combating terrorism
1987 – SARP bar for combating terrorism
1988 – SAP 75 Anniversary Commemorative Medal – SAPS
1990 – SAPS 10 year loyal service medal
2000 – SAPS 20 year loyal service medal
