post office robbed

A heavy police presence can be seen outside the Post Office in Caledon Street, Kariega, during an attempted robbery this morning.

Three suspects attempted to rob the Post Office in Caledon Street, Kariega early this morning, Friday, September 3.

At approximately 06:20 this morning the three armed suspects entered the Post Office and held the staff at gunpoint.

According to police spokesperson, Capt. André Beetge, a staff member working at the postal delivery section was overpowered by the suspects as she was busy opening the gates to the postal delivery side.

“They demanded the keys to the main operational section of the post office. When another staff member arrived a short while later, they also demanded the same from him. After  realising that neither of them possessed the keys, they took a cell phone belonging to a staff member and then fled the scene,” Beetge explained.

Nothing else was taken and no one sustained any injuries.
