A middle-aged man has been injured after a truck transporting cement bags, collided with two bakkies in Caledon Street, Kariega this morning, February 4.
During the accident, most of the cement bags were thrown off the truck, landing on top of one of the bakkies and in the street.
According to the 23-year-old driver, the Mercedes-Benz truck was moving uphill past KFC when its brakes allegedly failed. The truck reversed and collided with a stationary white Isuzu bakkie and a Fidelity vehicle parked KFC’s entrance.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, said that the 63-year-old driver of the Isuzu bakkie was still inside the vehicle when the accident took place.
“The driver [of the bakkie] was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. A case of reckless and negligent driving will be investigated,” Swart said.
