The Williams Hunt ISUZU Tuna Classic is regarded as one of the biggest premier tuna tournaments in the southern hemisphere in terms of the number of anglers and boats participating as well as the total prize money on offer. This annual event, with this year’s target species being tuna, marlin, and dorado, starts today and ends on Saturday.

Williams Hunt Isuzu continues to be a proud sponsor of the annual PE Tuna Classic- the annual fishing event has been running since 1991, with ISUZU being the headline sponsor for the past five years.

The annual three-day event draws about 30-plus boats. This year the Williams Hunt ISUZU Tuna Classic seems to be heading for a big one in Gqeberha with over R250k worth of prizes up for grabs.

Competing anglers from across the country will be contending for the prizes of the day. The Top Angler will walk away with R50k and the Top Boat wins R50k.

“We are proud to have been part of such a competition. Over the years the three-day event has become a family orientated event and as the main sponsor we have established a great working relationship with the event organisers. This event continues to be a firm favourite on the South African fishing calendar, and each year we look forward to it,” said Trevor Villet, General Manager Williams Hunt ISUZU.

The blessing of the fleet took place at 06:30 today at the Hobie Beach Pier, which is compulsory for all participating boats to be present.

Drawing plenty of visitors to the city, the Tuna Classic remains a significant date on the local sporting calendar. It is estimated that the tournament contributes more than R2 million to the Gqeberha economy.
