The efforts by SAPS members and their K9 buddies in the fight against crime continue to yield positive results.

Last week on Tuesday evening, Uitenhage K9 members and officials from a private security company acted swiftly after receiving a complaint about stolen property in Nicholl Street, Kariega. On arrival at the address, members spotted a suspicious white LDV bakkie. The driver sped off when he noticed police, however, with the assistance of the private security company, the vehicle was forced to stop.

“Investigations revealed that the fencing that was in the back of the bakkie was stolen from Transnet. Three three males (ages between 18 and 35) were arrested and appeared in the Kariega Magistrates’ Court on a charge of theft. The value of the stolen fencing is R6 000,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart.

Last Wednesday night at about 23:00, Uitenhage K9 members followed up on information received about dagga that was stored at a house in Siviwe Crescent, Kwanobuhle. W/O Jacques Adlem and his K9 partner, Texa, discovered various bags of dagga inside the house. The bags were confiscated, and two male suspects (ages 46 and 47) were detained on a charge of illegal possession of dagga.

“A total weight of 16,24kg dagga worth R32 500 were handed in as evidence. The two suspects appeared in the KwaNobuhle Magistrates’ Court,” said Captain Swart.
