Just after celebrating his 76th birthday a few days prior, well-known musician from Kariega, Joseph Moses who was better known as Joe or Oom Joe from The Invaders music band, sadly passed away on September 15.
Lead guitarist for The Invaders, Moses, and his three band members, John Burke, Errol Gobey and Dave Burke enjoyed multiple hits on the music charts during the 1960s and 1970s.
Musician Patrick Lindoor who refers to Moses as a “musical genius”, said that so many others have learned from his musical talent.
“Joe Moses’ music meant a lot to many people,” said Lindoor.
Moses leaves behind his three daughters, three sons, and 19 grandchildren.
His memorial service took place on September 20, whereas his funeral will take place on September 23 at the I.H. Japhta Hall in Gerald Smith, Kariega and will start at 10:00. The funeral service will also be live streamed on the People Of The Bay Facebook page.
Moses was the only remaining member of The Invaders after Errol Gobey passed away last year. Before their passing they had received honorary awards from DAK Netwerk for their contribution to popular music.
In August 2022, Heilie Combrinck reported that Danie van Wyk, executive chairman of DAK Netwerk, said at the time that they would continue to honour the Invaders for their legacy, and that they were negotiating with several role-players about the possibility of having a statue of The Invaders erected in their hometown, Kariega.
