Fitness instructor from Addo, Mongezi Mata is on a mission to groom athletes in Gqeberha and Kariega, providing them with the resources and guidance needed to excel through his organisation, Rabbit Gang Fitness Group. With a passion for empowering young talent, Mata has dedicated himself to helping athletes from underserved areas reach their full potential.

Mata’s inspiration came from seeing the untapped potential in his community. “Many talented individuals lack the resources and guidance needed to succeed, and we aim to provide a platform for them to shine,” he explained. “What drives us is the belief that every athlete deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background.”

His training program offers personalised plans, nutritional guidance, and mental conditioning, with a focus on building mental resilience and fostering a strong community among athletes. “Our holistic focus on developing the athlete sets our approach apart,” Mata said. “We emphasise building mental resilience and fostering a strong community among our athletes.”

Mata’s programme has already seen success, with well-known athlete Max Kulati becoming a world body-building champion in the Disability category. “Max’s journey is a remarkable testament to resilience and determination,” Mata said. “From the very beginning, Max exhibited an incredible drive to succeed, overcoming numerous challenges along the way.”

Despite facing challenges such as securing funding and resources, Mata remains committed to his mission. “We measure the success of our program by the personal growth and achievements of our athletes,” he said. “Our future goals include expanding our reach to more underserved communities, increasing our support network, and continuing to empower athletes to achieve excellence.”

Mata’s message to young athletes is clear: “Your dreams are valid and achievable. Our programme is here to support you in your journey, regardless of where you come from or the challenges you face. Dedication, passion, and a willingness to learn are all you need to start.”
