THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has taken a bold step forward in fostering community development and championing environmental sustainability.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Health, Councillor Thsonono Buyeye, along with the Executive Mayor, Councillor Babalwa Lobishe, presided over the official handover of four newly upgraded parks within the municipality.
This event marked a milestone in the municipality’s ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces and improve the quality of life for local residents.
During the handover, Councillor Buyeye officially handed over the revamped parks, including those located in Kariega, Spreeu Park, and Lanner Park.
These upgrades reflect the municipality’s dedication to creating safe and welcoming recreational spaces for its communities.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality spokesperson, Sithembiso Soyaya, praised the initiative saying,
“This significant milestone demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to promoting community development and environmental sustainability, aligning with the municipality’s vision for sustainable development.
“The upgraded parks will provide residents with safe and accessible recreational spaces.”
He added that this handover highlighted the municipality’s strategic focus on enhancing urban environments and fostering a sense of community well-being.
The revamped parks are expected not only to offer residents improved green spaces for leisure and recreation but also to contribute to the ecological health of the region.
“This initiative aligns with broader goals of sustainable urban development, ensuring that public health and environmental priorities go hand in hand,” Soyaya said.
As part of the municipality’s vision, the spokesperson said these initiatives are set to support both existing communities and future generations by providing essential amenities that promote healthy living and ecological awareness.
“The handover of these parks illustrate the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s proactive approach in addressing urban needs while safeguarding the environment,” he concluded.
