ONE of Kariega’s most anticipated events, the UTH Picnic, organised by Emayuyu Home Brewed Entertainment, makes its 11th annual return to Willow Dam on December 23.
The event is a dynamic celebration of culture, community, and creativity.
According to Zolani Willie, the organiser and director of Emayuyu Home Brewed Entertainment, “The event promises an extraordinary experience with live performances from renowned South African artists like the headlining artist, Scotts Maphuma; Caiiro, Bethusile Mcinga, and many more.”
The inspiration for the inaugural UTH Picnic, as stated by the founder, arose from a desire to establish a space that honours community, music, and local culture in a warm and intimate environment.
What started as a modest gathering of music enthusiasts aimed to combine the natural charm of the Eastern Cape’s outdoors with live performances, creating moments of connection and happiness.
Reflecting on past events, Willie said that the first artist to headline the UTH Picnic was the renowned Mandoza.
“It was a milestone moment for the event, setting the tone for what it would become.”
The event will begin at 12:00 and continue until 03:00, allowing attendees to enjoy a night of vibrant atmosphere under the sky, while creating long-lasting memories with family and friends.
“This year’s UTH Picnic is more than just a celebration. The event contributes significantly to the Eastern Cape’s economy by drawing visitors from across South Africa.
“This influx of visitors supports local tourism, with increased bookings at accommodations, restaurants, and other businesses.
Additionally, the event creates opportunities for local vendors, small businesses, and artists to showcase their products and talents, driving sales and building their profiles.
A portion of the revenue is reinvested into supporting community-based initiatives and promoting local arts and culture,” added Willie.
As one of the Eastern Cape’s marquee events, the UTH Picnic attracts visitors from across the country, boosting the local economy through increased tourism and supporting small businesses, vendors, and local artists.
Willie said, “By bringing people together, the UTH Picnic also underscores the importance of community building and cultural appreciation in Kariega, a town rich in heritage and charm.”
“This year, we hope the UTH Picnic will continue to unite people through music, art, and culture, while providing an unforgettable experience for attendees. We aim to see even greater support from the community and attendees, both locally and nationally.
“Our goal is to expand opportunities for vendors and artists while delivering an event that celebrates the Eastern Cape’s unique vibrancy,” added Willie.
Tickets for the event vary from general access to VVIP access.
Tickets range from R250 to R20 000 with VVIP seating and an allocated tab on Webtickets and CompuTicket, with a R100 entrance fee for a cooler box.
No bottled beverages are allowed inside the event, only cans and plastic bottles.
