AFTER a year marked by dedication and collaboration with the community, the members of the Kariega South African Police Service (SAPS) received a heartfelt Christmas message from their Station Commander, Brigadier André van Niekerk Swart.

In a spirit of reflection and gratitude, Brigadier Swart acknowledged the persevering efforts of the officers and their commitment to ensuring a safer community. This message comes at a time when many are preparing to celebrate the holiday season, a period traditionally associated with family and festivity.

Brigadier Swart emphasised the importance of the festive season as a time for reflection, gratitude, and hope. He spoke of the challenges that were surmounted throughout the year and the milestones achieved. The sense of community among the members of the Kariega SAPS has turned the station into what Swart describes as “a home away from home.” Despite the physical distance from loved ones that many officers might feel during this period, Swart encouraged his team to cherish the spirit of unity, resilience, and dedication that binds them together. “May this Christmas bring joy, peace, and renewed energy as we continue our mission with pride,” he said.

The Station Commander’s message also extended thanks to the team for their dedication and hard work over the past year. As the new year approaches, Swart expressed his hope for a future filled with success and happiness for all members of the SAPS and their families. “Thank you for your dedication and hard work,” concluded Brigadier Swart. “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!”

In addition to bidding 2024 farewell, the station also said goodbye to one of its own.

Warrant Officer Fanie Hough officially retired from the South African Police Service after 41 years of loyal service. His departure marked the end of an era and a time to reflect on the remarkable legacy he will leave behind.

Brigadier Swart said, “Throughout his 41 years with SAPS, Warrant Officer Hough has been an integral part of the team, known for his excellent work abilities and expertise. From the beginning until his retirement, his accomplishments and leadership roles have been an asset to SAPS, and his journey has been one of growth, commitment, and success.

Warrant Officer Hough has touched the lives of many colleagues, offering guidance, support, and expertise. His leadership, kindness, and professionalism have made him not only a respected team member but a cherished friend to many.”

As Warrant Officer Hough moves on to embrace his well-earned retirement, his colleagues wished him all the best. “While his presence will be missed, his legacy at SAPS will continue to inspire and shape the path ahead. Here’s to a future filled with happiness, relaxation, and new adventures.

Thank you, Warrant Officer Hough, for everything you have done for SAPS,” Brigadier Swart said before handing over a Loyal Service Certificate to Warrant Officer Hough for his 41 years of loyal service in the South African Police Service.

“Best wishes for your retirement,” he cheerfully concluded.
