KARIEGA – THE Nelson Mandela Bay District Detective Intervention Task Team is appealing to the community for assistance in tracing a wanted suspect linked to a kidnapping incident that occurred in October 2020 in the Kariega area.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, at the time, Quinton Plaatjies was reported missing at Bethelsdorp SAPS. “Despite extensive investigations, detectives were unable to trace him. During the investigation, information later emerged indicating that he had been kidnapped.”

She added that a warrant of arrest has since been issued for Donovan Williams, also known as “Poenie.”

Police information indicates that on 31 October 2020, the victim, Quinton Plaatjies, also known as “Doenas,” was allegedly lured to Fiskaal Street in Kamesh, Kariega. “It is alleged that the suspect, together with three accomplices, switched off the electricity supply to the residence before they stormed inside, armed with handguns.”

Janse Van Rensburg added that the victim was allegedly assaulted, tied up, and forced into a vehicle before the suspects fled the scene. “He has not been seen since. Following the kidnapping, funds were reportedly withdrawn from the victim’s bank account and purchases were made at several shops.”

She stated that in October 2025, a kidnapping case was formally registered, and a J50 warrant of arrest was subsequently issued for Williams.

Anyone who can assist in locating Donovan Williams or who may have information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Warrant Officer Leslie Kilian on 082 410 7492, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or their nearest police station.

“All information will be treated as strictly confidential, and callers may remain anonymous,” Janse Van Rensburg said.

“Police further warn the community that harbouring a wanted suspect is a serious criminal offence, and anyone found contravening the law will be arrested and prosecuted,” she concluded.
