SAPS Kamesh confirmed a protest action was reported at the Rosedale Clinic.
According to the SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, approximately 100 community members blocked the entrance of the Rosedale Clinic in Acacia Avenue, Rosedale in Kariega.
“They had a few concerns and wanted the councillor to attend to their issues. A meeting was arranged for further discussion,” she said.
Ward 48 Councillor, Georgen Miggels said the reasons for the protest were to address issues dating back to 2017. “The issues spoken about are the clinic being short-staffed and its overburdened workload. There were also satellite clinics that were promised by the Department of Health to the community. The community is now fed up with the alleged empty promises.”
No police action was taken during the protest.
According to the Department of Health spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, “the acting District Manager is currently meeting the stakeholders to listen to their concerns.”
Miggels said, “There will be a meeting on Wednesday, June 4 to address these issues with the District Manager.”
