KARIEGA – A 12-year-old girl, Yalinka Senekal, was fatally struck by a taxi, as Kariega SAPS opens a culpable homicide case.
According to Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the incident occurred at approximately 18:33 on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, on Cuyler Street Bridge towards Kruisrivier in Kariega.
“It is alleged that the driver of a white Toyota Quantum taxi was travelling towards KwaNobuhle when he noticed pedestrians walking on the side of the bridge,” she said. “The driver reportedly heard another vehicle hoot and moments later collided with the 12-year-old pedestrian.”
Janse van Rensburg added that the child sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
“The driver, who has been identified, was not arrested and is cooperating with the investigation,” she concluded.
