A 44-year-old Zimbabwean national has been arrested in Bellville for allegedly selling and handling controlled and scheduled medicine, following a swift intervention by members of Public Order Policing on Friday morning, 1 May.

The officers were conducting crime-prevention duties in the Bellville area when they saw a transaction taking place between the suspect and an unknown woman. On moving in to investigate, the officers found 27 bottles of cough mixture as well as an undisclosed amount of cash in his possession.

The suspect was due to appear before the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 May to face charges of selling and handling controlled and scheduled medicine.

Capt Charles Neelse confirmed the incident and said the man was held in the Bellville police cells over the weekend until his court appearance.
