Four women want to make sure that abused women in their communities do not feel alone.

The organisation Woman2Woman will host a gender-based violence campaign in Kalksteenfontein at the circle in Uintjie Street on 30 November at 10:00.

Florence Campbell says something that happened many years ago prompted her to start the organisation.

“I had this friend who always pitched up with black eyes or bruises. She confided in me, but I never did anything about it. Eventually her partner followed her to work and killed her. I blamed myself all the years and that is why three friends and I decided to start this organisation. There was also a huge failure on the side of the authorities and we want to adress that,” says Campbell.

Woman2Woman strives to be a safe space.

“We have different forums, but the main goal remains to help women escape their circumstances. Women need a space where they can talk about what is happening behind closed doors. Sometimes all an abused woman needs is someone who can listen to her. We are also focussing on empowering abused women to reach their full potential and become functioning citizens in their community. If you empower women, you empower a whole community,” says Campbell.
