Webcam leads to suspect’s arrest.
A 27-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday 17 July after being identified by his alleged victim during a routine patrol by law enforcement officers along Voortrekker Road in Goodwood.
Law Enforcement officers were travelling in the direction of Maitland when a member of the public flagged them down at the corner of Jakes Gerwel Drive and Voortrekker Road. The man told them he had been robbed on Saturday 12 July, and had just spotted his alleged attacker nearby.
He was able to point out the suspect and provided officers with both a case number and photographic evidence from his vehicle’s webcam.
The officers acted swiftly, arrested the suspect, and took him to Milnerton Police Station. The suspect, who lives in an informal settlement in Maitland, was charged with robbery with a firearm and pointing of a firearm.
This section of Voortrekker Road has become a known hotspot for robberies, prompting concerns from residents and law enforcement alike.
