Residents in Vredekloof East, Morgenster and Morgenster Heights in Brackenfell should prepare for a water supply disruption on Wednesday, 8 July, as the City of Cape Town carries out planned maintenance work in the area.
The City’s water and sanitation directorate will shut off the water supply from 09:00 to 16:00 to allow a contractor to replace a 300mm valve feeding Morgenster and install a new valve on the 200mm supply line feeding Morgenster Heights. Some streets may experience low pressure or no water during this period.
The planned work forms part of broader maintenance scheduled from 7 to 12 July, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements across several areas.
Residents are urged to store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers in advance. The City notes that not all residents in the affected areas will necessarily experience disruptions, but encourages preparation as a precautionary measure.
What to expect and how to prepare
Residents in affected areas are advised to prepare in advance and take note of what to expect during and after the work.
The City has scheduled the maintenance to be as minimally disruptive as possible, but warns that work can sometimes be more complex than anticipated and may take longer than planned. All repair and upgrade sites are regarded as construction sites and are off-limits to the public.

Residents should store enough water in clean, sealed containers before the disruption begins and keep taps closed once the supply is restored to prevent water loss or damage.
Once the water supply has been restored, it may appear discoloured or milky for a short period due to trapped air in the pipes. The City says this is normal and the water will clear if left to stand in a glass.
