Seniors got a brief aftertaste of their youth in Tafelsig on Women’s Day.
Tafelsig resident Rose Visagie said “God just dropped it into my spirit” to host the Back To School Pageant for seniors a month ago.
After that, Visagie said, everything just came together for Saturday 9 August.

The Barmhartige Pinkster Kerk provided the venue and sponsors came on board from far and wide to provide food and prizes.
“I want to thank all the community and businesses that supported this,” Visagie said.
Several motivational speakers encouraged the seniors on the day, including Bradwyn Daniels, an ex-convict who now works in youth development.
He told the seniors how he overcame a history of poverty and crime.

“Sometimes we don’t see the good things,” he said. “Today we are going to see the good things.”
The pageant judges were actor Jacques Theron of Arendsvlei fame and his wife, Lolly, who is an artist.

Event logistics organiser, Bradley Williams, said the idea to bring the actor and artist on board as judges was to introduce the seniors to people that they are accustomed to seeing on TV. Every senior got the chance to strut their grandchildren’s uniforms in front of the judges on a red carpet before three winners were chosen.
After the pageant, all the seniors had snacks before they were given goody bags to take home.
