Water being wasted and tyres that pose a danger across Dunoon were two of the matters raised by the local ward councillor at the Subcouncil 3 meeting held at the municipal building in Bridle Way on Thursday last week.
Councillors were discussing the law enforcement monthly report for area north when Meisie Makuwa, councillor for Ward 104 (Dunoon), asked law enforcement to assist with the removal of tyres in the area.
She said people do not have a place to discard of their tyres and that this often ends up on the rubbish dump which is sometimes set on fire and burnt.
Water also being wasted
She also asked law enforcement to assist with car washes that waste water in her area.
Law enforcement officer, inspector Don Bardo, said they are aware of these challenges. He said law enforcement does confiscate pipes in Dunoon but that they cannot be in the ward the whole day.
Officers patrol the N7 daily, he said.
With regards to the tyres, Bardo said the department did conduct an operation with the police recently to confiscate tyres, ahead of the planned national shutdown.
However, he said when it comes to private property, they unfortunatly do have to work with the police as they cannot go onto private property.
Log service requests
Bardo said they can remove the tyres from the containers, but as soon as they turn their back, the problem continues.
Makuwa said the car wash businesses uses a lot of water, “like there is no tomorrow”.
Subcouncil chair, Phindile Maxiti, asked Makuwa to continue logging service requests to help with the matter.
According to the area north statistical report for the month of April, a total of 47 service requests were received from Ward 104.
