Meetings have been set up with several ward councillors to discuss the informal trading plan in their areas.
The delay in the informal trading plan was one of the matters on the agenda at the Subcouncil 3 meeting held on Thursday last week in the Royal Ascot Council Chamber, Bridle Way in Milnerton.
Here Shirley Alexander, district area coordinator – area economic development department (north) – said she had set up a date with the respective ward councillors to discuss the plan.
She also mentioned that they had managed to set up a meeting date with the so-called “evasive trader” on Plattekloof Road and Rothschild Boulevard. The trader is trading in the area illegally.
The meeting date is set for 9 December with law enforcement and the Ward 1 councillor, Cheryl Visser, who indicated that she is glad the meeting is scheduled.
Alexander said the traders along Plattekloof Road in Bothasig still remain an issue, while other traders infringe on the borders of Giel Basson Drive.
Alexander has made contact with ward councillor Miquette Temlett to discuss the informal trading in her ward as well, which include Bothasig and Edgemead, to keep her up to date.
“Generally the other traders in this space are fairly good. We are monitoring it. The only thing is weekend traders who are still a concern for us, but law enforcement are keeping a close eye on it. We have unfortunately no compliance officers on call over weekends,” said Alexander.
In Ward 113 (Table View), compliance officers are still in the area conducting regular site visits.
A meeting has been set up with Joy Solomon, Ward Councillor, as well who indicated that some of the traders here “are definitely not compliant”.
The meeting on Thursday last week was the last meeting for the year. The next meeting is scheduled for 19 January.
