Ward 5 neighbourhood watches receive R200k safety equipment

Safety equipment worth R200 000 was donated to four neighbourhood watch structures in Ward 5 recently.

The donation, which forms part of the yearly ward allocation budget, benefits Zone 4 Watch, Edgemead Neighbourhood Watch, Bothasig Neighbourhood Watch and Richwood Neighbourhood Watch.

The handover took place on 30 June.

Miquette Temlett, ward councillor, said the investment reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting the invaluable work of neighbourhood-watch volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise to help keep local communities safe.

“Safety and security remain the number one priority consistently raised by residents across Ward 5.

“As a councillor it is my responsibility to listen to the community and respond to their needs. Supporting our neighbourhood watches is one of the practical ways we can strengthen safety initiatives and help protect our residents.”

Grateful

She expressed her sincere gratitude to the volunteers whose dedication makes a meaningful difference every day.

“Our neighbourhood watch members selflessly serve their communities, often sacrificing personal time to patrol streets, assist residents, and work closely with law enforcement. This R200 000 investment is a small token of appreciation for their outstanding contribution. We thank every volunteer for their commitment and hope this equipment further strengthens their ability to continue their excellent work.”

According to Temlett, Ward 5 remained proud of its neighbourhood watches and their vital role in building safer, stronger communities.
