The City’s Fire and Rescue Services were still on the scene by 16:00 on Friday, more than a day after a fire broke out in Metal Road in Blackheath Industria.
According to Edward Bosch from the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services, the fire was still smouldering at 16:00.
He confirmed that Fire and Rescue Services are opening up the smouldering rubble and using foam as a means of stopping it.
TygerBurger was on the scene early on Friday morning where a man who works in one of the buildings on which the property is located where the fire broke out, relayed to TygerBurger that the rubble that was burning had been there for years, with the owner of the rubble having been “missing” missing for the past couple of years.
It is suspected that the fire was started by a match or a cigarette lit by rubble collectors and informal recyclers, who usually frequent the property with their wares.
Businesses near to the building where the rubble was still burning, have started moving their equipment as a precaution.
A kitten was also rescued from the heap of rubble by firefighters.
