Despite ongoing efforts by Eskom to address a backlog of electricity faults in Cape Town, the number of unplanned power outages has continued to rise, leaving more residents without electricity during the peak of winter. Eskom confirmed on Wednesday that while teams are working to resolve long-standing faults, the volume of new and unexpected outages has increased in recent weeks. In response, the utility has deployed additional resources to several of the worst-affected areas in an effort to stabilise supply.
The areas currently receiving priority support include Bloekombos, Wallacedene, Bardale, Blue Downs, Delft, Dunoon, Eerste River and Table View.
In a statement, Eskom apologised for the extended interruptions and acknowledged the serious impact on households and businesses, especially during the ongoing cold snap.
“We understand the frustration and inconvenience this causes, and we sincerely thank the public for their patience and understanding as we work to restore supply,” the utility said.
Eskom is encouraging affected customers to make use of its digital fault-reporting tools for quicker service. These include: MyEskom Customer App (available on iStore and Google Play); Alfred Chatbot on the Eskom website and WhatsApp fault logging via 08600 37566.
These platforms allow users to log faults instantly and receive a reference number to track progress.
Eskom assured residents that restoring reliable power supply remains a top priority and further updates will be issued as progress continues.
