Tyger Valley Library will soon have a fresh look.

Residents of Tyger Valley will need to make alternative arrangements for their library needs, as the Tyger Valley Library will be temporarily closing its doors for essential maintenance work.

Closure details

The library will be closed from 4 November 2025 until 21 November 2025, a period of 18 days. The facility is expected to reopen on 22 November 2025.

Chantelle Conradie, senior librarian at Tyger Valley Library, explained this temporary closure came as the library received its first major update since relocating to its Tyger Valley location in February 2012. After more than 13 years of serving the community the facility was in need of review and replenishing to continue providing quality services to residents.

During the closure period the library will undergo several improvements:

• Fresh coat of paint throughout the facility

• New carpet installation for improved comfort and aesthetics

• Space clearing and re-imagining to accommodate future changes and enhancements

Impact on services

All library programmes and services that require access to the physical premises will be temporarily unavailable during this period. This includes:

  • Book borrowing and returns
  • Study spaces
  • Computer and internet access
  • Children’s programmes
  • Community events and workshops
  • Planning ahead

Library users are encouraged to:

  • Complete any urgent library business before the closure begins
  • Consider visiting nearby libraries for essential services during the closure period
  • Check for any updated information as the reopening date approaches

“The maintenance work represents an investment in the community’s future,” said Conradie, “ensuring that the Tyger Valley Library continues to serve as a valuable resource for education, learning, and community engagement.”

When the library reopens on 22 November residents can expect a refreshed, welcoming space that will better serve the community’s needs for years to come.
