The Western Cape police’s Anti-Gang Unit arrested 12 suspects, aged 25 to 72, in a successful operation in the province, which uncovered illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs.
Members deployed in the Kensington area conducted the arrests on Monday 23 February as part of ongoing operations targeting gang violence and tracing activities.
Acting on information about firearms at premises in Garden Village, Maitland, officers conducted a thorough search of the property. The operation yielded a .38 Special Taurus revolver along with 11 rounds of ammunition.
In addition to the firearms discovery, officers seized 30 sachets containing tik and six Mandrax tablets. They also recovered R130 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
All 12 face charges that include possession of an unlicensed firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and dealing in drugs.
They were expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court soon.
