A tipper truck, belonging to a private contractor, tipped over in Plattekloof Glen recently. No injuries were reported.

A towing service had to be called in last week to recover a tipper truck that had tipped over in Plattekloof Glen.

The tipper truck belongs to a private contractor and was transporting reclaimed asphalt material from Milton Road to a park in Blythwood Drive in order to construct access to the headwalls at the two retention ponds there, Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility, explains.

“While reversing towards the tipping point, the edge of the gravel gave way and the truck overturned on its side and damaged the vibrecrete wall of a property.

“The truck was removed on the same day and the wall was repaired the day after. No one was injured,” Quintas confirms.

Help

The incident occurred on Monday 27 November. Help from the community was also called in.

The Monte Vista/Plattekloof Glen Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association were one of the organisations that reported on the matter.

“We had a very unfortunate accident in the dog park today where one of the trucks delivering road milling for the path unfortunately tipped. There was some damage to a resident’s wall, that will be repaired. However my heart truly goes out to Roads Infrastructure Management as well as the contractor who were on site shortly after the incident. They arranged the towing of the truck, diggers are still on site clearing the resident’s yard and moving some of the milling,” Tyrel Painczyk, chair, wrote.

District Watch, a private security company, also posted that their services were notified about the incident where the tipper truck had tipped over, and damaged the wall of a premises in Blythwood Drive. Several officers attended the scene, where they discoved that the vehicle was lying on its side.

“Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The owner of the premises requested that the police be dispatched, who then took over the scene on arrival,” they reported.
