Three male suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested
on charges of armed robbery in Parow on Thursday 24 January (yesterday).
According to a statement by Captain FC van Wyk, provincial
police spokesperson, SAPS members from the Parow Crime Prevention Unit were
conducting patrols in Parow Valley when they were stopped by members of the
public and informed of a robbery in progress at a nearby shop.
“The members called for backup and at approximately 11:00
they cautiously approached the business premises at the corner of Prinsloo and
Hofmeyer streets,” said Van Wyk.
Van Wyk said three men, one of whom appeared to be armed,
fled the scene when they saw the police.
“The members gave chase on foot and apprehended the suspects
nearby,” said Van Wyk.
“A 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine was found in the
possession of one of the men. Recovered items stolen from the store included
two cellular telephones, numerous packets of cigarettes and an undisclosed
amount of money,” said Van Wyk.
The suspects were arrested on a charge of armed robbery and
are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday 28 January.
