The Western Cape police strongly condemns the senseless act of violence that claimed the lives of three men in Delft during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Anti-gang unit detectives have initiated an investigation into three counts of murder following a shooting incident in Sandrivier Street, Leiden, Delft, at approximately 05:30.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were accosted by unknown suspects who opened fire on them before fleeing the scene. The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

Motive

The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.

Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile has denounced the incident in the strongest possible terms, reaffirming the police’s unwavering commitment to dismantling gang structures and rooting out organised crime that continues to terrorise communities.

“We will not tolerate ruthless criminals who use intimidation and violence to assert control over communities. The anti-gang unit, supported by specialised resources, will intensify operations in Delft and surrounding areas to restore calm and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” said Patekile.

Police deployments in the Delft policing precinct have been bolstered as part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the area and curb gang-related violence.
