The blood bath continues in Cape Town, with another three people shot and killed on Friday.

Three men, aged between 24 and 27, were killed in Ekopoleni in Happy Valley. A fourth victim, aged 18, sustained injuries and was admitted to hospital.

On a video circulating online it is clear the assailants wanted to make sure the men were dead, as it shows one going back repeatedly to shoot them as they lie on the ground in front of a shop. After the attack the assailants fled in a white bakkie.

According to Col Andre Traut, police spokesperson, detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident. “At approximately 22:41 a lone gunman opened fire on the victims before being picked up by the driver of an Isuzu bakkie. They have yet to be arrested. While detectives are pursuing all leads operational members have been deployed in the area to maintain stability. At this stage the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related. The public is urged to share any information that could assist the investigation by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the My SAPS mobile application. All information will be treated anonymously.”

Social media

In the comments sections of social-media posts about the shooting the community expressed their shock and outrage. Jeremy Dietsiso, a principal at a prominent school in Kuils River, wrote on Facebook: “No! And you think I am joking when I say it is a miracle to grow up in Happy Valley and make something of one’s life. I drove past that shop in the week, when I visited my mom.”

The Western Cape has been under siege these the last couple of months, with mass shootings occurring in places such as Kraaifontein, Bishop Lavis and Mitchells Plain, particularly in recent weeks.
