Three suspects were arrested on charges of possessing a hijacked vehicle and illegal firearms following a swift police operation in Khayelitsha.
The arrests came after patrol officers were alerted to a vehicle hijacking incident in Kraaifontein over the weekend, and successfully intercepted the stolen vehicle at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Brighton Road.
“Officers on patrol in Khayelitsha were alerted to a vehicle hijacking in Kraaifontein,” says Metro police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons.
“With the assistance of the tracking company, they were able to locate the vehicle and force the driver to a stop.
“The operation saw one suspect attempt to flee the scene on foot, but he was quickly apprehended by officers. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded two illegal firearms.The three suspects, aged 22, 24, and 41, were arrested and detained at Kraaifontein police station, pending their court appearance this week.,” says Solomon.
