The communit of Kalksteenfontein is reeling from another deadly shooting that took place early this morning (16 March).

Two men, 18 and 22, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies and died on the scene.

The police, through spokesperson Sergeant Samantha Adonis, says the incident took place just after 06:00 in the morning. “According to bystanders, three unknown men walked up to two friends, fired shots and fled the scene. According to community members, it was still early, so people were in their houses and just heard the shots. They then came to check after the shooting and found the two men lying in the street. The motive for the shooting is unknown and under investigation. The Bishop Lavis police opened a double murder case for further investigation. No one has been arrested at this stage,” says Adonis.

This morning’s double murder comes shortly on the heels of another one that happened last Thursday, and fears exist that the murders are part of a brewing gang war.

The Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Organisation extended condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased. “We make a serious and urgent call to get a grip on crime and in particular murders in the precinct,” says Graham Lindhorst, spokesperson for the organisation.
