Taxi-violence causes staff constraints at Cape Town International Airport

Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) announced this morning that Cape Town International Airport is experiencing longer-than-usual queues at security screening due to operational staffing constraints associated with the ongoing taxi-related unrest.

Deadly taxi conflict

Cape Town has been gripped by escalating taxi violence linked to a dispute over operating routes between rival taxi associations, CATA and CODETA. The clashes have claimed about a dozen lives and left several others wounded in recent days.

Acsa spokesperson Thea Govindsamy, asked passengers to allow additional time for airport processing. “Passengers are advised to arrive four hours before international departures and three hours before domestic departures. Passengers are encouraged to monitor traffic updates and check their flight status directly with their airline or via the Acsa app,” says Govindsamy.

Minimise disruptions

According to Govindsamy, their teams are working to manage passenger queues and limit delays. “We apologise for any inconvenience and thank passengers for their patience and understanding,” she says.
