Dagga to the value of R150 000 was confiscated when a local security company reacted on a complaint amidst threatening violence in Morningstar in the heart of Durbanville.
The incident on Friday 8 August at 22:33 started with a complaint by a resident to the local neighbourhood watch about noise and loud music. When members of the Morningstar Neighbourhood Watch addressed the complaint, four to five men in dark clothes approached them, which sparked heated arguments and threats, according to Divan Kotze, chief executive officer of CDF.
Threatened to stab with a knife
One of the men attempted to stab members of the neighbourhood watch with a knife and the assistance of CDF was requested, he says.
“CDF armed response units moved in fast to a volatile scene in Morningstar. Our officers acted without hesitation, moving in tactically to block and contain the suspects – including a well-known repeat offender – before anyone could be harmed,” Kotze says.
The Durbanville police arrived at the scene and the suspects were arrested. They were searched and blocks of dagga to the value of R150 000 were found and confiscated.
Report crime
“A huge thank you to the Morningstar Neighbourhood Watch for their support on the ground and to Durbanville police for their swift response. The unwavering commitment of our neighbourhood watch groups and police plays a vital role in keeping our community safe,” he says.
He encourages victims of crime in Durbanville to report all crime so that the crime statistics reflect the true state of crime and more manpower and infrastructure can be allocated to Durbanville police.
Representatives of Morningstar Neighbourhood Watch did not want to comment on the incident due “to it being so sensitive and still an ongoing investigation”.
Durbanville police were approached for comment and further information, but no feedback was received by the time of going to print.
