Tech equipment was stolen from Dennegeur Primary School during a break-in over the long weekend.

The Strandfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) is appealing to the community to alert police if they come across the stolen items.

“We encourage residents not to buy stolen items, please,” a notice on the CPF’s WhatsApp channel urged. It then listed the stolen items and their specs.

“If you know or see anyone with these items please alert Strandfontein police.”

Early-morning discovery

Police spokesperson Capt FC van Wyk said a burglary was registered for investigation at Strandfontein Police Station.

He said the school caretaker discovered the burglary on opening the school on Tuesday 11 August at 06:30.

Western Cape Education Department (WCED) spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said it is suspected the burglary had taken place on the night of 10 August and was discovered the following morning.

“The perpetrators gained access to the deputy principal’s office, from which a computer, printer and scanner were stolen. A quantity of refreshments intended for learners attending Saturday classes was also taken.”

Hammond urged the community to protect schools.

“We are disappointed by this criminal act, which ultimately impacts the resources available to support teaching and learning. The WCED urges members of the public to assist us in protecting school property and to report any suspicious activity at or around schools to the relevant authorities. For instance, the attempted resale of the IT equipment could result in an arrest if reported. We all need to protect our schools; they are assets to us all.”
