Stormwater pipe project underway in Monte Vista

A project to install a new stormwater pipe is currently underway in Plattekloof Glen.

The project takes place in Westerwijk Avenue, Plattekloof Glen.

Work commenced on 17 April and the planned duration is two months.

Cheryl Visser, ward councillor for the area, says the project is aimed at helping to deal with the capacity.

It is also important that residents channel rainwater from their gutters or roof, to the stormwater system correctly.

Incorrect channelling can cause problems in low-lying areas.

Thus, residents in Plattekloof 1, 2 and 3 must know that if they channel rainwater incorrectly, it can have an impact on low-lying areas in Ward 1, said Visser.

She also distributed an information sheet explaining the correct process.

Do not direct rainwater into the sewer system where it can cause overflows, especially at times of heavy rainfall.

If you do not want excess rainwater on your property, rather make a channel or pipe it further to run into the street and down into the stormwater system, the information sheet reads.

“Basically each resident needs to realise that they have an important role to play, to ensure that they work with water correctly, and that their actions can have an impact on other households,” said Visser.

A notice was sent to residents informing them of the current stormwater project. The project entails the installation of a new 450 mm stormwater pipe within Westerwijk Avenue and Plattekloof Road. The road will be closed and, or partially open during working hours (08:00 to 17:00) to do the necessary excavation and installation of the pipe. The roads will be open thereafter for full access, the notice reads.

Traffic accommodation will also be in place every day of the week from 07:30 to 17:30 to accommodate all parties, the notice continues.
