Stop signs have been installed at a set of faulty traffic lights in Richwood. The traffic lights, at the intersection of Tygerberg Valley Road (M13) and Giel Basson Drive (M12), have been out for several weeks now.

At the Subcouncil 3 meeting held on Thursday 19 September at the municipal offices in Royal Ascot, Milnerton, traffic officer Heinrich Blaauw stated that stop signs have been placed there to address the issue.

The subcouncil was discussing the report for traffic services for the month of August when he shared the news with ward councillors.

Blaauw said the problem is with Eskom. “They have difficulty with power supply, but the City has indicated that it has alternative power supply,” he said.

At a previous meeting Cheryl Visser, councillor for Ward 1, said she witnessed a near accident at the intersection. Before the installation of the stop signs, motorists have been using it as a stop-and-go, on a first come, first go basis.

Roxanne Moses, subcouncil manager, also said at the previous meeting that the matter had been brought to the subcouncil’s attention.

TygerBurger reached out to Eskom for comment but is still waiting on a response.
