The fast food giant Steers in Van Riebeeck Road, Kuils River had to
be evacuated by patrons and staff after a fire broke out inside the building this (3 February) afternoon.

According to Tubatsi Seholobe, area manager of Steers, the fire is
a result of a flame ignited by a frying machine.

“We were operating as normal when the fryer started to
overheat.

“A staff member sounded the alarm.
“Fortunately there were not a lot of customers inside the building,
just a few,” Seholobe said.

He said luckily no injuries were reported.
“There is not a lot of damage inside, except for the machine that started the fire which is completely damaged.
“A few tiles in the kitchen were also badly damaged,” he said.
It is still too early to determine the cost of the damage.
Seholobe said three fire trucks from the fire and rescue services

The pizza giant Debonairs Pizza next door also had to close for
business due to the danger.
