Participants in this years’ Blister for Bread charity walk on Sunday 27 August will get the chance to see and hear a young talented singer from Kuils River live in action.
Sayde Fillis, a 14-year-old Grade 8 learner from Sarepta High School, will be one of the support acts to Nur Abrahams at the free concert at the event. Krista Jonas, remembered for her sterling performance on The Voice South Africa Season 3, will be the other support act.
Sayde started singing as a six-year-old at the Old Apostolic Church in Sarepta. He is a former learner of Irista Primary School where he regularly performed at various school events.
In November 2021 a video of Sayde singing Adele’s “Easy on me” at a function at Irista, drew loads of attention after it was shared on social media platforms. The video received more than 250 000 views on Facebook. It also attracted singer Robin Pieters’ attention who invited Sayde to perform at his show, It’s a love thing, in February 2022.
Many other opportunities to perform on various stages followed. In the past year and a half Sayde has performed along with various artists such as YoungstaCpt, Craig Lucas, Karin Kortje and many others.
He also appeared on TV shows such as Expresso on SABC3 and Koortjies with Jonathan Rubain on KykNET en Kie.
Sayde wants to be an inspiration to all young people in the area where he lives. He would like them to try and do better than just falling under any bad influences that are surrounding them daily, he says.
“I am hoping to make some sort of difference in their lives just by proving to them that I can make my dream come true.”
Sayde’s favourite genre is pop music and some of his favourite artists are Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Justin Bieber.
