Well-known singer Robin Pieters asked the community to pray for him after becoming a victim of a smash-and-grab incident in Elsies River.

Pieters says in a social media post he was on his way to rehearse with a fellow artist when the incident happened. “On my way to rehearsal, while looking at the directions on my phone to Salome’s home, I experienced something intense – a smash-and-grab in Elsies River. In that moment, a young man took my phone, and instinct took over. I ran after him across a school field, fell and injured my ribs. I’m in contact with my doctor and monitoring things closely.

Dangerous

“When I reached the flats where he ran to, the people there were incredibly kind. They told me gently but firmly to leave because it was dangerous. That moment stayed with me. I’m not angry as I come from the Cape Flats and I understand it. And that’s why it hurts to see how desperation can push someone to this point. I work hard so I don’t have to live that life again, but I still choose compassion. I bless that young man. I pray he finds peace, purpose, and honest work because stealing is not the way out,” says Pieters.

Prayer

Pieters thanked the metro police officers who stayed by his car still-running and helped him block his phone. “Even at the end of your shift, you showed care and went above and beyond. Life can change in an instant, but I’m still standing. Still trusting. Still believing that something miraculous can come out of even the most chaotic moments. Please keep me in your prayers. It’s been a whirlwind week, but my faith is stronger than the storm,” says Pieters.
