The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has identified a collapsed section of the local sewer network in Olifantshoek Street, Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.

Surrounding roads have also been affected.

City maintenance teams were using suction tankers during the day to lower sewer levels and prevent overflows, with work limited to daylight hours for safety reasons.

A contractor had been appointed and the first phase of repairs was set to begin on Friday 8 August.

The area was cordoned off with minor traffic diversions in place. Residents were urged to proceed with caution and treat the affected roads as construction zones.

The City apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience while efforts to restore sewer infrastructure continued.

For updates residents can contact 0860 103 089 or email water@capetown.gov.za.
