For the next month visitors to Edgemead Library will not just be able to take out books, magazines or DVD’s, but also be able to view some of the paintings on display at the library from artists across the city.

A total of 21 artists are taking part in the exhibit.

“Covid-19 tested a lot of people. Some artists made the best of their time and did what they love, they started to paint,” says Santa Weigel of the Friends of Edgemead Library who arranged the annual art exhibition this year.

She says beautiful creations came out after lockdown and now finally artists have an opportunity to display and sell their hard work at the Edgemead Library.

“People are enthusiastic to be part ofsomething that was absent for so long. The exhibition is supported and celebrated by many.”

The 2022 art exhibition runs until Saturday 11 June.

“The library is packed with beautiful art that made some visitors smile, others emotional but most were amazed. Lovely paintings decorate the library, it looks good.”

Helen Carstens, ward councillor, artists and guests enjoyed cocktails to celebrate the opening of the 2022 Art Exhibition on Tuesday 3 May.

“The interest from the community and artists who missed this opportunity to share during covid is obvious. The library is finally open to the public to view, enjoy and buy.

“The participants also mentioned how happy they are to show their creations to visitors, also to meet other artists and compare their handiwork. What these artists achieved in a short time is amazing.

“When I walked through the library I saw many dreams on canvases, I saw people with talent and their eagerness to share and for admirers to enjoy. I know many houses will be have paintings from this library.

“Indeed these artists can sit back and be proud of their hard work and exchange their paint for a glass of satisfaction. I raise my glass to these men and women and I agree that this culture was missed during the lockdown. I am happy to be part of this celebration, there is no better way to show how you feel than by putting your emotions on canvas,” says Weigel.
