The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has intensified its search for the man who committed a “sadistic act” of sexual violence with a goat this past Sunday in Dunoon.
They have increased their presence in the area to expedite an ongoing investigation of bestiality.
This is after CCTV footage revealed the perpetrator gaining access to his victim (the goat) by climbing over the kraal barrier.
“The footage is terrible to watch. It is sadistic and cruel beyond comprehension. I cannot believe that any person would engage in sexual activities with an animal, let alone in such a cruel and inhumane manner. From the footage, the man performs various sexual activities with the goat using his fingers, mouth and penis,” chief inspector Jaco Pieterse told TygerBurger.
He confirmed that the goat was brought to the SPCA on the same day the incident was reported.
“Inspector Theo Arendolf investigated the matter and brought the goat in for urgent veterinary examination and treatment. The veterinarian found several tears on the vulva of the goat, indicating severe trauma,” he says.
The SPCA appealed to the public for assistance, and they are offering a reward of R6 000 for any information.
The reward was R5 000 but increased following a specified donation by a concerned member of the public and supporter of the SPCA. The reward will be paid to any person who can provide information to the SPCA that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrator.
Last week, an army of inspectors and other SPCA staff, led by Arendolf, entered Dunoon with pamphlets in an attempt to expedite search efforts and increase the chance for a community member to recognise the culprit.
Inspectors engaged with the community and paid a visit to local spaza shops to raise awareness about the incident.
Arendolf confirmed that the team spent the entire morning in Dunoon in search of the culprit.
“Our search continues and will not end until the man has been traced and charged,” he says.
The SPCA says a case has already been discussed with the family violence, child protection and sexual offences division of the Milnerton police.
“A criminal case will be opened once our investigation has been completed,” Pieterse says.
- The public is urged to report any information to the SPCA on 021 700 4158/9 or send an email to inspectorate@spca-ct.co.za.
- Reports can be made confidentially and the SPCA will never reveal the details of a complainant.
