A Grade 7 learner from Monte Vista recently took part in the Martial Arts of South Africa (Masa SA) National Championship and Festival 2026, where she did extremely well.
Amber Pillay (12), who attends Monte Vista Primary School, received three gold and one silver medal, was awarded SA Champion, awarded Western Cape Provincial colours, ranked 24th out of 1 000 fighters, and seventh out of 700 junior fighters (under 16 years old), her proud father Jerome Pillay says.
Disciplines
Over 1 000 athletes from all over South Africa took part in the mixed martial arts tournament.
The disciplines represented include Kickboxing, Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, Karate, Grapplers, MMA, Muay Thai and many more.
The tournament was held at the Jonibach Sport Centre in Pretoria North in Gauteng.
Amber is trained in Krav Maga and currently represents Mercury Taekwondo in Cape Town.
