The selection of a Grade 11 learner at Bosmansdam High School to the SA Schools Girls Rugby group has been described as a historic achievement for the Bothasig-based school.
The school congratulated their learner, Nommah Sandifolo, on her outstanding accomplishment, saying that the entire school family is behind her every step of the way.
“Nommah has earned the honour of representing South Africa on the national stage after being selected as part of the historic first-ever SA Schools Girls squads announced by SA Rugby. This landmark moment marks a new chapter in South African schoolgirls’ rugby, making her selection even more remarkable. To wear the green and gold is a dream that few achieve, and Nommah’s dedication, perseverance and exceptional talent have earned her this prestigious opportunity,” the school said.

The first SA Schools Girls Rugby groups – which include two girls’ teams – was named by SA Rugby at the conclusion of the FNB u-18 Girls Week held in Gqeberha. In a statement issued on 10 July, SA Rugby wrote that this is a historic milestone for the sport in South Africa.
“This is a truly historic occasion, we would like to congratulate all the girls, their parents, coaches and schools on their inclusion in these squads,” said Rian Oberholzer, chief executive of SA Rugby, in a statement.
“The SA Schools Boys’ team have been playing for decades and to finally see two girls’ teams selected is a big day in the history of South African rugby. We will be following these players’ journeys with interest and we believe it’s only a matter of time before many of them will progress to the senior national ranks,” says Oberholzer.
SA Rugby says the two squads will be coached by former Springbok Women’s players Natasha Hofmeester and Zolisa Noxeke. Nommah, who was introduced to the sport by her coach at school, is one of the four locks in the squad.

“I am so grateful for my selection to the SA Schools camp, it has been something I have been dreaming of ever since I fell in love with rugby and now that it has happened, I’m more than grateful for this opportunity. My future dreams are that I make it into the senior team and start travelling and playing against different countries and making a name for myself. I want to be someone’s inspiration to play rugby and to never be afraid of doing what your heart desires and to never let what people think, or say about you affect you because at the end of the day, you are doing what you love and that’s all that matters,” says Nommah.
The high school congratulated her on this outstanding accomplishment. “Thank you for representing our school, Western Province and our country with pride. We have no doubt that you will continue to inspire future generations of young sportswomen,” the school said.
