If in future you watch the new Touched by Style movie, you will be surprised to see a fimiliar set – Rosendal High School in Delft.
Touched by Style is a community based production company that teaches young people about the movie industry, while making movies. Recently they were filming their latest project, a film called Aapie, at Rosendal High School.
Nic Matthee from Touched by Style said they shot the opening scene at the school.
“The opening scene was filmed at the school where the drama students who participated experienced a life changing activity. Community members and learners were entertained by the sword fighting action and spoiled with a lunch on the film set,” says Matthee.
Make-up artist Nakita Payle said it was a welcoming experience for the first-time actors.
“To be culturally fit and having the feel-good vibe makes a huge and positive difference in the community. Our community is equipped with the right tools, the most support and an enthusiastic willingness to exercise their talent. Touched By Style Community Arts Projects and Films works in many areas of the Cape Flats,” she says.
Nikky Zaan (Aapie) said the rehearsals were intense but she took about five days to perfect the stunt work and sword fighting.
Stunt double for Saldanah, Elzaan Matthee, a Grade 8 student at the school, said this is the third movie she is working on.
“I usually play small roles. This time I play a younger version of the main character and I do stunt work,” says the 14-year-old learner. She says she encourages young girls of her age not to hold back on their dreams of becoming great without limitations.
The movie will be released on Friday 9 June.
