Johannesburg will host three voice actors from the award-winning American animated science-fiction series Rick and Morty at Comic Con Africa.

Ian Cardoni voices the swashbuckling space cowboy Rick Sanchez, Harry Belden voices Rick’s naive and idealistic grandson Morty Smith, and Spencer Grammer voices Morty’s sarcastic but lovable sister Summer Smith.

Rick and Morty is a two-time Prime Time Emmy Award-winning show that follows the Smith family as they deal with everyday family dynamics while going on interdimensional adventures through space. Since its release in 2014, fans have come to love the show for its fantastical storylines, humour, signature animation style and relatable domestic dramas. Packed with self-referential in-jokes, it has achieved both cult status and widespread acclaim.

When they will appear

All three voice actors will appear for the first three days of the festival. During their time at Comic Con Africa, the actors will take part in interactive live activities.

Panel discussions

Fans will hear the actors reflect on their careers, discuss their creative work, share stories from their time on set and answer questions from the crowds.

Autograph sessions and photograph opportunities

Festival-goers will be able to meet the actors in person. Autograph sessions, known as Auto Ops, give fans the chance to have one of the actors sign memorabilia. Photo Ops allow fans to book a professional photograph alongside the star. Both require an additional ticket purchase.

Harry Belden

Belden is an American actor and voice actor best known for voicing Morty Smith in Rick and Morty since 2023. He began his acting career at a young age and has built a portfolio spanning television, film, theatre, and voiceover work. He is recognised for his comedic timing, emotional range and distinctive vocal performances.

Spencer Grammer

Grammer is an American actress best known for voicing Summer Smith in the series. She first gained widespread attention for her role as Casey Cartwright in the comedy-drama series Greek. Her career spans television, film and voice acting across a range of genres. As the voice of Summer Smith, she has earned a devoted fan following. Grammer, incidentally, is also the daughter of comedian Kelsey Grammer, star of the sitcom Frasier.

Ian Cardoni

Born and raised just outside Boston, Cardoni voices Rick Sanchez in Rick and Morty. He stepped into the role at the start of season 7 and can be heard in seasons 7 and 8, available on HBO Max. Season 9 is currently airing on Adult Swim. The series has been renewed through season 12.

Cardoni has voiced roles across adult and children’s animation, video games, television promos and commercials. His recent work includes the Nickelodeon series Rock, Paper, Scissors, which is nominated for a Children’s & Family Emmy and an Annie Award, Fox’s animated series Krapopolis, and the Sony Pictures Classic film Scarlet, directed by Academy Award-nominated director Mamoru Hosoda. Scarlet was released on 13 February and was an official selection at the Venice and Toronto international film festivals in 2025.

In video games, Cardoni has voiced roles in DC: Dark Legion by Warner Bros. Games, CookieRun: The Darkest Night by Devsisters, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 & 4 by Iron Galaxy. He reprised his role as Rick Sanchez in the chart-topping game MultiVersus from Warner Brothers Games, which has received multiple Game Awards nominations. His most recent role is the villain Magrus in Romeo is a Dead Man by Grasshopper Manufacture and developer Suda51, released in February.

Outside of acting, Cardoni is an active Emerson College alumnus who spends his time on philanthropic and educational endeavours. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife.

Comic Con Africa takes place from 24 to 27 September, from 09:00 to 18:00 daily, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec.
