The Richwood Neighbourhood Watch says it plans to install another seven CCTV camera systems in the area, which will further enhance safety and security in the suburb. The neighbourhood watch says it has set some targets for itself for this year, of which the camera project is just one of them.
Glenn Marais, re-elected chair of the neighbourhood watch, explained some of the targets for 2026. He said another target will be hosting the organisation’s annual Easter Drive and to improve on the very successful kiddies Christmas party.
“Last year it was a success and the kids really enjoyed it.
“We are also looking at setting-up our operational room, and hopefully get an internet service provider to possibly donate us a package for CCTV monitoring, as well as monitoring our crime and medical groups in Richwood during operations and patrols.
“We are also looking at a recruitment drive for more volunteers.
“This year it is also our accreditation renewal, so all members need to be re-vetted by the police,” Marais says.
At the end of last month a new committee was elected at the organisation’s annual general meeting (AGM). The meeting was attended by the police, Precinct Response, SS Security, District Watch, neighbourhood watch members, and local residents.
The new committee members are Greg Lambert (vice-chair), Charmain Dye (secretary), Bronwyn Mostert (treasurer), Justin Christensen (operational and patrol coordinator), Aiden Kidwell (assistant patrol coordinator), Megan Bennett (events) and Louise Kidwell (events assistant).
Recent crime statistics were also shared at the AGM by the police, while awards and certificates were also handed out to members and armed response officers who work in the area.
